![]() | Christmas Flower (Pahutakawa). This is the flower of the Pahutakawa tree. In New Zealand it is considered to be our Christmas tree since it blossoms late December, and it creates such beautiful splashes of red around the place. Featured on the Home Page, Fri 29th Dec, 2006

![]() | Morning Run by the Sea. Arriving in Napier shortly before sunrise I decided to wait while the sun came up and take some pictures. As the sun was getting itself out of its bed, so were some of the residents of Napier, including this man jogging along the pebbly beach. Featured on the Home Page, Tue 19th Dec, 2006

![]() | Civic Square, Wellington. People going about their business in Civic Square, next to the library and town hall, it looks kind of exotic really. Featured on the Home Page, Tue 12th Dec, 2006

![]() | Fishing Boat Heads Out in the Morning. Early morning and a lone fishing boat heads out of Wellington harbour by the golden light of sunrise, it was a magical sight. Seen from my back door. Featured on the Home Page, Tue 28th Nov, 2006

![]() | Kelp waves and the Water Ripples in the Currents. Hopping between the jagged rocks around some bays in Wellington, there are beautiful sights to be seen. The sea was rushing through this gap in the rocks, then it would rush back again, endlessly, and the kelp seems to thrive on it. Featured on the Home Page, Mon 6th Nov, 2006

![]() | Just Finished its Milkshake. One of the weak calves that my sister was giving personal attention to while they got stronger. I think that's your good side calf 'don't care, give me more milk!' Featured on the Home Page, Sun 29th Oct, 2006

![]() | Underwater Perch. The Black Backed Gull came down to check out what was going on, perhaps there would be some human scraps of food offerings. I like the ripples it has made when it landed on its perch. Featured on the Home Page, Sun 22nd Oct, 2006

![]() | Yacht at Anchor. Yacht sitting in Houhora Harbour. The patterns on the water are the sort of thing that yachties look for when they are looking for wind. Featured on the Home Page, Thu 5th Oct, 2006

![]() | Disgruntled Heron Flies By. The Heron flies past, perhaps disgruntled at being interrupted during it's daily activities, and checking up on me to see what I was up to, and when it could return. Dumb Humans, they can't even fly! Featured on the Home Page, Wed 27th Sep, 2006

![]() | Cape Maria Van Diemen. Cape Maria Van Diemen, where the old lighthouse was built in 1879, however due to difficulties of getting to the light in rougher weather the new light was built on Cape Reinga in 1941. In particular, in 1933 when the assistant keepers wife was swept off the rocks, the radio operator jumped in to the waves to rescue her, and they were both, sadly, drowned. ![]() | Surf Casting at the Foot of Ninety Mile Beach. Ahipara is at the south end of Ninety Mile Beach, so from here you could in fact drive along the beach all the way up to Te Paki (a little less than 20km from Cape Reinga), but then I would be happier doing that in a 4 wheel drive vehicle. ![]() | Glassy Waters of Kohu Kohu. A small jetty sticks out into the waters of the Hokianga Harbour. This water often has a beautiful glassy surface being very sheltered and is often shrouded in mist in the mornings. It's hard to imagine this harbour with old wooden sailing ships in it. ![]() | Moss Covered Boulders of Wairere Boulders. The Wairere Boulders are rather unique, they were formed by a layer of Basalt lava having the clay beneath eroded away by the Wairere river, causing the lava layer to break up and slide into the river valley, over 2.8 million years. ![]() | Just Big Enough to Hug. Not far down the road it started raining again, but it was not wet rain really, and the spring day was warm enough, which is good for this sturdy little pony, with its shaggy coat. ![]() | Friendly Wee Sparrow. In the morning I came out of my little room at the camping grounds to a lovely sunny day and some of these little chirruping critters. This one is a couple of arms lengths away, and the wings flapping is because of the shutter clicking. Featured on the Home Page, Sat 17th Jun, 2006

![]() | Natures Way. Walking along Lyall Bay Beach I enjoyed looking at the surface of the sand where the sea as it came and went, left patterns and channels that then played with the late afternoon sunlight. There is something profound about the way something so simple can produce something so intricate and complex. Featured on the Home Page, Sat 10th Jun, 2006

![]() | Clouds in Turmoil. Looking out my window today there were these nice clouds, and since I have been spending so much time on this website lately, it was a good excuse to actually go outside and see the world again, hope you like it :) Featured on the Home Page, Wed 7th Jun, 2006

![]() | Tane Mahuta. Tane Mahuta (Lord of the Forest, in the Maori language). This is the tallest of the old Kauri trees today, it is estimated to be 2100 years old. Circumference of 13.7m (45 feet) and height of 51.5m (169 feet), this is indeed a Lord of trees. Featured on the Home Page, Sat 27th May, 2006
